Cup final beckons

Monday 6 March 2017

The Bedford College Football Academy/AFC Kempston Town partnership has pitched up at the Wixams “new town”.

To add to the good news, College students are part of the squad which is playing in the Bedfordshire Senior Trophy Final vs The 61 Club at Kempston Rovers Football Club, Hillgrounds Road, Kempston. The original date of 8 March was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch, the new date will be advised on social media.

First team manager and College staff member John Guiney said: “This is a great morale booster for the whole club and an important experience for our young players to rise to the challenge of the pressures of a cup final.”

AFC Kempston Town & Bedford College Chairman Gary Ingerson said: “AFC Kempston Town & Bedford College is broadening its horizons now with our teams playing at the new Wixams Football Centre and renewing sponsorship opportunities with AL & G Abbott of Bedford Road, Kempston and Andreas Pizza of Tavistock Street, Bedford. We value our relationship with the College as is brings through the best local talent to our team.”

Academy players combine football skills with gaining qualifications in a range of subjects to prepare them for employment Monday to Friday - regardless of which AFC Kempston Town & Bedford College team they play for at the weekend.
