Agriculture Advanced Apprenticeship Level 3

This advanced apprenticeship is ideal if you have worked in agriculture and want to enhance your skills and knowledge further in order to progress to a more senior role. The units you will study reflect the job roles within the industry and you will have a choice of pathways to suit your interests; a livestock, crops or mixed pathway. Units vary from monitoring and maintaining livestock to harvesting operations. There will also be the opportunity to study for additional professional qualifications, such as safe use of pesticides, forklift use and first aid.

Entry requirements

Grade requirements:

You will need a minimum of four GCSEs at grades A*-C including English and maths or a Level 2 qualification in a relevant subject supported by Functional Skills in English and maths at Level 1.

Course content

During this apprenticeship you will study a range of topics, including:
  • Monitor and maintain livestock on outdoor sites 
  • Transport physical resources within the work area
  • Prepare and maintain structures and surfaces
  • Prepare, monitor and cultivate sites for planting
  • Identify, monitor and maintain the healthy growth of crops
  • Identify, monitor and control unwanted vegetation 
  • Monitor and maintain harvesting operations

Assessment methods

The majority of assessment will take place in the work place through a mixture of practical observation and questions, learner discussion, written questions and the production of a portfolio of evidence. There is also a short multiple choice test marked externally.

Qualifications

You will gain the following qualifications:
Work-Based Agriculture NPTC Level 3 Diploma
Plus…

  • Employment Rights and Responsibilities
  • Personal, Learning and Thinking Skills
  • Functional Skills in English and Maths

There will also be the opportunity to obtain a professional qualification, such as a Safe Use of Pesticides or Forklift operating qualification, as well as undertaking a first aid course.

Further study and career options

Further study: Upon successful completion of this apprenticeship you could go on to study the Higher apprenticeship in Agriculture here at the College.
Future careers: You could continue working in the industry, using your skills and expertise to enhance your career progression into roles such as agricultural/horticultural technician, farm manager or farm secretary.

Additional information

In order to take part in this course you will need to provide overalls and steel-toed boots.
