Human Resource Practice CIPD Level 3 Certificate

The Certificate in HR Practice (CHRP) provides a firm foundation in all the areas of HR, as well as an understanding of HR in a business context. It will help you develop practical and essential HR skills and above all will give you the confidence to be more effective at work. The course is one evening per week 5 pm to 9 pm with no afternoon or Saturday attendance required. The qualification can be gained in 10 months. You will be taught by CIPD qualified lecturers with vocational (HR) experience.

Entry requirements

You will need to be able to demonstrate and use good written and verbal communication skills as well as basic IT skills, particularly use of word processing and presentation packages. The Certificate in HRP is ideal for those who are new to HR, people interested in a move into HR, those working in a support role and wishing to develop their knowledge and skills, line managers who have responsibilities for HR activities and HR staff who do not have sufficient qualifications to take the intermediate and advanced level qualifications.

Course content

This course will give you:

  • A sound understanding of the knowledge, skills and behaviour required of a professional HR practitioner, whether your role is generalist in nature or specialist.
  • An understanding of how HR activities support an organisation’s strategy and assist the achievement of business objectives and how these are shaped by internal and external factors.
  • The ability to analyse HR information and present findings to inform decision-making.

  • Understanding organisations and the role of HR
  • Recording, analysing and using HR information
  • Resourcing Talent
  • Supporting Good Practice in Managing Employment Relations
  • Supporting Good Practice in Performance and Reward Management.

As a student member of the CIPD you will be made aware of and have the opportunity to attend CIPD regional events. Successful completion and certification will automatically provide you with Associate membership. You will need to continue your CIPD membership to maintain Associate membership.

Assessment methods

Teaching is a mixture of classroom based lessons, e-learning, tutorials and self-study (on specialist units). Each unit is assessed using a variety of methods including, written, oral and practical. There are no external examinations. The assessment will develop your work related skills such as analysis, problem solving, decision making, communication and presentation skills. These will enhance your self-confidence allowing you to progress your career aims.

Further study and career options

The CIPD has introduced an intermediate level (level 5) in Human Resource Practice (now also offered at Bedford College) or Human Resource Development, or with relevant experience you may progress to the Post-Graduate Diploma In HRM (level 7) at the University of Bedfordshire.

Additional information

A total of 280 hours study is required to successfully complete this course of which 140 hours should be private study. CIPD membership is required and is payable direct to the CIPD. The CIPD will be able to confirm the latest fees for membership. You must be in CIPD membership to be certificated at the end of the course. The cost is not included in the course fee.

If you are aged 19 or over you may qualify for an Advanced Learner Loan to help you pay the tuition fees for this course.
