Electrical & Electronic Engineering BTEC HNC (part-time)

This course has a strong vocational focus and is ideal for those of you who are looking to gain employment in Electrical & Electronic Engineering. We have a proven track record for student success in this area, and you can choose from a wide range of subjects within the Electrical and Electronics Engineering disciplines. The HNC qualification is a nationally recognised standard in Engineering, and the employment opportunities are many and varied. People with proven skills in Electrical & Electronic Engineering are in great demand both in the UK and overseas. You can also use your HNC to continue your studies on a one-year HND programme at the College.

Entry requirements

You will need:

  • 2 A-Levels at grade A*-C (including Mathematics and Physics or Electronics), OR
  • BTEC Level 3 Diploma at Merit or above, including Further Maths, OR
  • Equivalent Level 3 qualification in a related subject.

We also welcome applications from mature students who will be considered individually on experience rather than qualifications.

Assessment methods

Teaching is focused upon a student centred approach, with an emphasis on you designing and evaluating electrical and electronic circuits and systems. You will be using Computer Aided Design packages as well as undertaking practical circuit work. You will be assessed by a programme of continuous assessment – this programme will comprise a combination of individual assignments, group assignments, project work and some formal tests.

Further study and career options

On successful completion of the HNC you can progress on to further study with our HND or choose to enter employment.

Additional information

The course runs on a two-year day-release basis.
