Transport Maintenance – Light Vehicle IMI Level 1 Diploma

This qualification covers the technical needs for today’s motor vehicle repair industry, including the diagnosis of non-complex system faults. It provides essential knowledge for service technicians working on light vehicles (cars and vans) in all types of garages, dealerships and maintenance depots.

Course content

The course will involve both the theory and practical aspects of the following:

  • Carrying Out Routine Vehicle Maintenance
  • Removing and Replacing: Engine units and components
  • Electrical auxiliary units and components
  • Chassis units and components.

Students also gain a broad knowledge and understanding of health and safety in the workplace and other skills associated with working in a garage.

Mandatory units:

  • Contribute to Workplace Good Housekeeping
  • Health and Safety
  • Positive Working Relationships
  • Remove and Replace Light Vehicle Engine Units and Components
  • Remove and Replace Light Vehicle Electrical Units and Components
  • Remove and Replace Light Vehicle Chassis Units and Components.

  • Optional unit:

    • Conduct Pre and Post Work Vehicle Inspections

    Assessment methods

    The learning outcomes are assessed by a variety of task based assessments, observations, oral questioning and online assessments.

    Further study and career options

    You can progress onto Light Vehicle Maintenance & Repair IMI Level 2 Diploma.
