Motor Vehicle Maintenance & Repair (Light Vehicle) Advanced Apprenticeship Level 3

The advanced apprenticeship will enable you to further increase your theoretical knowledge and practical understanding of light vehicle maintenance and repair. This apprenticeship offers a combination of qualifications, that will equip you with the skills and knowledge you need to work as a technician in the light vehicle maintenance & repair industry. There is a constant demand for skilled technicians to diagnose and repair vehicles and continuing advancement in vehicle technology means that technicians need to have high technological skills as well as good mechanical skills. This apprenticeship offers a combination of qualifications, that will equip you with the skills and knowledge you need.

Entry requirements

Grade requirements:

You will need to have achieved the Level 2 Apprenticeship in Vehicle Maintenance & Repair and hold GCSE grades A* - C/9-4 or Level 2 Functional Skills in English and maths.

Course content

During this apprenticeship you will study a number of topics, including:

  • Electrical systems 
  • Engine systems
  • Chassis systems
  • Transmission

Assessment methods

You will be assessed for all units on the programme via online multiple choice tests, and through practical tasks. Completion of a written assignment is also required for each unit.

Qualifications

You will gain the following qualifications:

IMI Light Vehicle Maintenance & Repair Competence Level 3 Diploma
Plus…

  • IMI Light Vehicle Maintenance & Repair Principles Level 3 Diploma
  • Functional Skills in English and Maths
Further study and career options

Further study: On successful completion of this apprenticeship you could progress on to a Level 4 Motor Vehicle programme, in order to work towards a degree-level qualification.
Future careers: You could progress into a range of jobs including master technician, workshop controller, service adviser or service manager.

Additional information

To take part in this programme you will need to provide suitable Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for use in work and in College workshops.
