Vehicle Accident & Repair (Paint Principles) IMI Level 2 Diploma

This Level 2 qualification covers technical needs for today’s motor vehicle repair industry, including basic body repair techniques and procedures. It provides essential knowledge for the body repairer working on a wide range of vehicles in all types of garages, dealerships and specialist body repair shops. Students also gain a broad knowledge and understanding of health and safety in the workplace and other skills associated with working in a garage.

Entry requirements

Students must have successfully completed a Level 1 Vehicle Body Repair course, or show suitable workplace experience.

Course content

This programme will involve studying both the theory and practical aspects of the following topics:

  • Removing and Fitting Non-Welded Non-Structural Body Panels
  • Removing and Replacing Non-Structural Body Panels
  • Repairing Non-Structural Body Panels

Assessment methods

The student’s knowledge is assessed by IMI Awards set practical assessments in a motor vehicle workshop environment, IMI Awards set ‘on-line’ multiple-choice testing and written assessments.

Further study and career options

Students can progress onto Level 3 Vehicle Body Repair Procedures. This Level 2 qualification also prepares technicians for the Body shop Technician Accreditation assessment at Technician level.

Additional information

During this part-time course you will need to attend College for one day a week, with a balance of training being undertaken at the workplace. You will need to provide your own safety equipment for the course, including footwear, overalls and safety goggles.
