Gas Foundation Course for Plumbers (3 weeks)

This course requires you to spend 15 days in a college environment and undertake ‘on the job’ training, under the supervision of a Gas Safe registered installer, where you will need to provide work-based evidence towards your qualification. You will be trained in all aspects of domestic gas safety in preparation for their ACS assessment. This is the industry recognised and accepted route to gain a certificate of competence needed to become a member of the Gas Safe Register.

Entry requirements

You will need to have relevant qualifications or experience in trades that have transferable skills and must be able to provide your own ‘Gas Safe’ mentor, who can provide a range of ‘on the job’ gas training.

Course content

You will be trained in all aspects of domestic gas safety in preparation for their ACS assessment. This is the industry recognised and accepted route to gain a certificate of competence needed to become a member of the Gas Safe Register.

You will study a range of units including:

  • Gas Safety Legislation
  • Characteristics of Combustion
  • Ventilation, Chimneys and Flues
  • Gas Safety Devices and Controls
  • Operating Pressure and Gas Rates
  • Unsafe Procedures
  • Installation of Pipework
  • Checking Meter Regulators
  • Emergency Actions and Procedures
  • Tightness Testing and Purging
  • Commissioning.

On completion of the training, portfolio and successful recommendation, you will be issued with a BPEC Gas Foundation certificate.

Assessment methods

You will be assessed through a combination of practical and theory examinations.

Further study and career options

Upon receipt of the Gas Foundation certificate you can then apply to undertake the relevant ACS assessments. This is the industry recognised and accepted route to gain a certificate of competence needed to become a member of the Gas Safe Register.

Additional information

You will need to purchase the Essential Gas Safety Domestic Manual and the CCN1 workbook.
