Aviation Operations on the Ground Level 2 Certificate

This course is designed to give you the knowledge and ability to become a passenger service agent as it mirrors some of the training available within the industry. You will look at the check in procedures along with dispatch procedures and airport requirements. You will also learn useful terminology taught in the industry. If you are thinking of working at your local airport, this qualification gives you all the information you would need to begin including terminology, airport procedures and customer service. The tutors have worked within the industry so they can pass their own knowledge on to you. This qualification opens your eyes to the different areas you can work in - not just the check in desk!

Entry requirements

You will need to have a good standard of written and spoken English and a genuine interest in the Aviation industry. Entry will also be subject to a successful interview.

Course content

During the course you can study a range of topics, including:

  • Gaining an understanding and proficiency in industry terms
  • Identifying and managing risks and hazards in the airport environment
  • Identifying key governing bodies and their regulations
  • Understanding the impact of security risks and breaches
  • Triple A procedures, practical application of procedures, checking passports and visas, travel documents and ticketing.

Last year we visited the Monach training facility at Luton Airport where students received a talk on check in and the role of a PSA by a trainer from Monarch. Students were also able to take part in cabin crew activities such as arming and disarming doors, emergency procedures, evacuating a smoke-filled cabin - and of course going down the emergency slide! The cost of the trip will be discussed at interview. You may also chose to study the NCFE Cabin Crew qualification to broaden their knowledge of the airport and airline industry.

Assessment methods

Students will build up their portfolio of work through written pieces, practical activities and tests.

Further study and career options

The qualification gives a good background for those wishing to apply for employment within an airport. Some students may also want to study Travel & Tourism further and take up a full time qualification.

Additional information

A genuine interest in the airline industry is essential for this course. You must be willing to participate and work as part of a team and independently. Smart dress is essential. The Monarch training trip is approximately £60. Information will be given when you start your course as it is dependant on numbers.
