This study programme will give you the skills to start a career within the Health and Social Care profession. You will be able to specialise in either Health Care or Social Care, whilst gaining valuable work experience within a variety of settings, such as the elderly, children and learning disabilities.
To begin this study programme you will need...
Duration: 2 Years
- 4 GCSEs at grades A*-C or 9-4 ideally including English and maths (a science subject is also highly recommended)
Entry will also be subject to an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check. You will also need to demonstrate an ability to work in an early years placement.
- Health & Social Care Level 2 Certificate at Merit level
Throughout the study programme you will cover a variety of units that will give you a wide variety of knowledge. In conjunction with your academic work you will also gain valuable experience within a variety of health and social care settings. This is a mandatory part of your course and to complete the course you will also have to ensure that you have the required amount of vocational hours.

- Lifespan Development, Anatomy and Physiology
- You will also cover specialist units for the route that you decide to take
- English and maths:
If you don't already have GCSE English and maths grade A*-C, we will work with you to help you develop your maths and English skills.
- Work experience:
You will undertake placement (one day a week, with block placements) in a range of vocational settings.
- Personal development skills, study skills and employability skills
- Additional vocational learning and qualifications:
- You will have the opportunity to go on an educational trip that will be related to your studies.

Teaching methods will include lectures, discussions, group work, practical classes, and guided study. All units are assessed by your tutors.

Further study and career options
Your career path from here will be dependant on the profession/career that you have chosen. You will be able to progress onto University to continue your career - such as nursing, midwifery, social work, and many other career choices, (subject to grades). You will also be able to progress into employment, where further work training qualifications can be gained.
You are expected to be responsible for your own learning and work towards deadlines that have been set. You are expected to be prepared and organised for all your lessons as this will be vital to enable you to achieve. You will be required to pay £46 for required clothing, £20 for books and £399 for any trips/visits, you will also be required to pay for your CRB check. If you are aged 16-18, tuition fees, exam fees and College membership are free.
All full-time Level 1 and Level 2 courses are now FREE for everyone, whatever their age. If you are looking to study a Level 3 qualification, courses are still free if you’re under 19 or 19-23 and studying your first full Level 3 qualification.
