Light Vehicle Maintenance & Repair IMI Level 3 Diploma
Offered through the Institute of the Motor Industry (IMI), this programme is a continuation from the Motor Vehicle Maintenance IMI Level 2 Diploma combining classroom based theory with practical diagnostics and advanced repair procedures.
To begin this course you will need to have completed the Motor Vehicle Maintenance IMI Level 2 Diploma with Functional Skills. Entry will also be subject to a successful interview, where you will be asked to complete a skills assessment.
Advanced diagnostics in:
- Engines, including lubrication systems, cooling systems and engine management systems
- Electrics, including Can Bus, flex ray and fibre optics systems.
- Chassis units including ABS, ESP, advanced suspension and steering systems
- Transmission including clutches, manual and automatic gearboxes, final drive units and differentials.
Assessment will take the form of practical assessments, written assignments and online exams where the candidate will have to demonstrate a sound knowledge of vehicle systems and diagnoses procedures.
Further study and career options
On successful completion of the course you can progress on to an Apprenticeship, or into employment in the motor vehicle sector as a trainee technician, higher education is also accessible via a Foundation Degree in Automotive Engineering or Motorsports.
To take part in this course you will need to provide suitable personal protective equipment (PPE) for use in the College workshops.
